The Danger of Eating Fruits

March 14th, 2010 by my2cents

Do you experience itching in your mouth whenever you eat a banana? When you eat an apple, does your stomach fill with gas? Do raw peaches make your throat swell? And when you eat raw pineapple, even the canned version, do you find your throat burning or, even worse, do you break out in hives?

If you suffer from any of these symptoms, you may have what’s called Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS) or Pollen Food Syndrome.

Oral Allergy Syndrome is most commonly associated with allergy to pollens such as ragweed, birch, plantain, and other grasses. The immune system mistakes the food proteins for the pollen proteins and causes an allergic reaction.

The sufferer may experience additional allergy reactions such as itching in the eyes or stuffiness of the nose. Or you may experience redness of the lips, tongue, gums, and palate. The most severe reactions can trigger asthma or anaphylaxis shock.

Fruits and nuts are the primary culprits for OAS but other foods can cause these symptoms as well. This disease can be especially discomforting for strict vegetarians who want to eat raw fruits and vegetables.

for the most part, OAS is connected with eating uncooked foods. This means that if you cook the foods, you will probably not have an OAS reaction. This is because the proteins in these foods are temperature sensitive. Heating them usually makes them far less allergenic because they change the basic nature of the protein to one that the immune system does not recognize.

This is not always true, however. In some cases the symptoms will simply migrate to the intestinal area where you’ll experience gas, bloating, nausea, diarrhea, or other gastrointestinal distress.

Most of the time OAS is not a life-threatening condition. In addition, in most cases the discomfort will only last for a few minutes. For others, however, the reactions can be severe and even be life threatening.

Normally, Oral Allergy Syndrome is treated simply by giving the patient an allergy shot. These shots work by slowly building up a person’s resistance to allergens until they no longer have an effect on him.

Those with asthma or hay fever allergies are the ones who are most at risk for OAS . And the symptoms will usually show up immediately. If you experience symptoms such as your throat passages narrowing or vomiting, you should contact your physician immediately.

Organic Food and Its Nutritional Value

March 13th, 2010 by my2cents

Ask any expert about the benefits of organic food nutrition, and you’ll inevitably get the same answer it’s the best method to avoid overweight and enjoy great health in today’s heavily industrialized world. Metabolism changes without our noticing it; metabolism actually carries the influence of all the elements that define our lives from the air we breathe and the work atmosphere to the food, the house and the entertainment we enjoy. Maybe it sounds far-fetched but pollution takes over our body with every bite we take. The sad but true reality is that non-organic food poisons our system.

The principles of organic food nutrition will little by little become part of daily life, but this cannot happen unless the awareness level increases. Organic food has the advantage of being grown naturally without any chemicals such as fertilizers, insecticides, pesticides or antibiotics. Organic cultures are grown without any form of pollution, and even on farms, the poultry and the cattle are allowed to graze without being confined to a box or a small stable. Clean products are the basis of organic food nutrition, promoting health and preventing illness.

Organic food nutrition is a central topic of discussion in magazines, at health workshops, in communities concerned with weight loss, on Internet sites and in television shows. Maybe there is a shift of mentality taking place and, we’ll become aware of what organic food nutrition implies in terms of health and life changes. Sometimes, organic food nutrition allows no room for the small unhealthy treats like candies, chocolate and ice cream. Well, all sweets are definitely saturated with colorants and artificial substances made to give consistency, flavor or simply preserve them; once you manage to consider such items from this perspective, you’ll stop craving.

Organic food nutrition is a personal choice that we make or we don’t make. Only when self-imposed will organic food nutrition really work. There is no external authority to tell you that from now on you’ll become dedicated to organic food nutrition and give up all the non-organic foods you like. Changing eating and dietary habits is part of personal awareness, individual evolution and it has come naturally. If you truly believe in things done the natural way, then you will no longer crave for something sweet and tasty that in fact pollutes your body instead of feeding.

The Isometric Diet and Steady Health

March 10th, 2010 by my2cents

The isometric notion has been a part of the health care terminology for decades. The most normal application of the term, until now, has been regarding physical exercise. Taken from the Greek root word Iso, meaning equal, the familiar term Isometric exercises involves applying identical weight to get strength goals.

Fairly

recently, wellness researchers have exposed another pioneering application of the isometric notion in the health care field: nutrition. These researchers have acknowledged that an isometric approach to diet – a.k.a. the “Isometric Diet” — can lead to health improvement.

The Isometric Diet®, which provides the

philosophical basis for the Zone Diet, has promptly gained respect from the wellness and nutrition society since it applies this clear “balance” lens to the rather befuddled, often misinformed world of dieting. Formed by Dan Duchaine in the mid 90s, and evolved by researchers, for instance, Dr. Barry Sears (founder of the Zone Diet™), the Isometric Diet is an eating regimen that calls for a balanced ratio of protein, low-glycemic carbohydrates, and essential fatty acids.

The balanced

share is the consequence of an complete awareness that the human body does not automatically desire, or necessitate, all kinds of micronutrients in all situations. Although carbohydrates, proteins, and fats do provide the crucial building blocks of human existence, not all sources of every are optimal in all situations.

The Isometric Diet

therefore takes a holistic approach to eating, and incorporates both macronutrient and micronutrient sources of energy. This goes past simply balancing proteins, carbohydrates and fats. As a substitute, an optimal balance is achieved on a deeper level one that leads to perfect body functioning, normalized blood-glucose levels, a controlled metabolism, and a healthy satiating of hunger.

This

perfect balance, and mainly the point regarding healthily satiating hunger, is in absolute contrast to several “fad diets”, which seek to artificially curb hunger. This potentially damaging suppression repeatedly forces eaters to experience a weakened immune system, bone density loss, and further adverse consequences of malnutrition.

The Isometric Diet is founded upon five

integrated ideals: balance protein variety, unsaturated fats, low glycemic carbohydrates, and awareness of food priority.

Principle One: Balance. The Isometric Diet

acknowledges the truth that the human body functions optimally while it is fueled by a balanced micronutrient relation of proteins, carbohydrates and fats.[i] The optimal relation for these three is 1:1:1, or the similar number of calories from proteins, carbohydrates and fats.

Principle Two: Protein Diversity. The human body responds

in a different way to different sources of protein.[ii] Such as, a post-exercise meal that consists of rapid-assimilating whey protein shall have a additional beneficial wellness impact than an intake of caseinate or soy protein. The Isometric Diet consequently promotes a blend of protein intake to seek an amino acid balance, and to decide the most proper assimilation speed for optimal wellness.

Principle Three: Unsaturated Fats and MCT’s. The Isometric Diet

acknowledges that the human body processes saturated fats differently from mono- and polyunsaturated fats.[iii] Moreover, the diet exploits the truth that there are some fats, called Medium Chain Triglycerides or “MCTs”, which are shorter chains of 8-10 fatty acids. These MCT chains are shorter, absorb swiftly, and digest exceptionally easily. The product is a more efficient digestive system and better results through less effort.[iv]

Principle Four: Low Glycemic Carbohydrates. Healthy eaters are

quickly adopting the Isometric Diet’s promotion of carbohydrates that do not induce the blood-sugar to rise. Dieters can consequently use the “glycemic index” (GI) as an intelligent way to measure the body’s insulin response to a given food and to observe the intake of “good” carbohydrates.[v]

Principle Five: Awareness of Food Priority. The Isometric Diet is aware that there are naturally occurring micronutrients found in food that supplements, typically, cannot engineer. As such, the Isometric Diet does not

advise an eating regimen that regularly replaces food with supplements. Rather, a controlled diet that is prepared by scientifically planned supplements is principally effectual.[vi] This is particularly important in a very rapid paced world where eating a complete meal can be quite a challenge. In such cases, the Isometric Diet approves of the supportive value of supplements – provided that such supplements are formed in light of the above four doctrines.

One such supplement that has been engineered

inside the framework of these beliefs, and that is receiving positive acclaim in the wellness care field, is called Isometric®, produced by Pennsylvania-based Protica, Inc. Hence named to reflect its balanced composition and support of the Isometric Diet beliefs, Isometric is a third-generation supplement that provides a complete spectrum of macro- and micronutrients.

Of

greater importance to most wellness-conscious eaters, though, is Isometric’s balanced micronutrient breakdown. Each all-natural 3-fluid-ounce serving – which can be responsibly used as a meal replacement — delivers 25 grams of low-glycemic carbohydrates, 25 grams of protein, and 10 grams of unsaturated, highly-bioavailable crucial fatty acids. Of supplementary value to dieters is Isometric’s™ modest 300-calories per serving.

The path to perfect eating balance is an

evolving one. The additional information that nutritional science uncovers, the more effectual shall be the resultant eating regimen.

Acidic Fruits: Compatible with the Alkaline Diet?

March 8th, 2010 by my2cents

People who are considering or just starting the alkaline diet often wonder whether acidic fruits are forbidden. Since many types of fruit are rather acidic in their natural state outside the body, there is a widespread assumption that they would all be off limits on a diet which attempts to control excessive acid production inside the body.

Yet, this is the opposite of the truth! This is one of the little-understood facts about the alkaline diet, so listen up…

What’s the Difference Between Acidic and Acidifying?

It is vital that you comprehend the big difference between foods that are acidic before you eat them, and those that are acidifying once they enter your body. The alkaline diet is designed to reduce your intake of foods that are acidifying internally, so how acidic it might be in its natural, uneaten form is less important.

In addition, some acidic fruits are actually alkaline inside the body! Surprisingly, citrus fruits and pineapple are some of the most acidic fruits outside the body, but they are alkaline once you eat them. Not only are they permitted on the alkaline diet, but they are actually encouraged.

What About Really Acidic Fruits?

So, what about acidic fruits that are in fact acidifying internally? Again, you may assume that all acidic fruits are not allowed on this plan, but that is another misapprehension.

A completely alkaline diet would not be healthy, even if it were possible to live with. This being the case, eating some acidic fruits is completely acceptable on the plan. Contrary to popular belief, is not an overly restrictive diet which bans all foods which increase acid inside the body.

Specifically, the alkaline diet allows for 20 to 35 percent of your daily diet to be made up of acidic foods. It is actually a great idea to make some of those non-alkaline foods acidic fruits and vegetables, since they contain so many wholesome vitamins and nutrients that your body needs for overall health.

Fresh fruit also contains a lot of fiber, which will help with digestion and help you feel fuller for longer periods of time between meals. Try to include many internally alkaline fruits in your daily diet, but keep the acidic fruits that you love on hand as well. Just control the portions of the acidic fruits.

Acidic fruits are always going to be a healthier choice than fried foods, sugary treats, and other types of acidic food that are almost devoid of nutrients.

Acidic Fruits:The Bottom Line

In the end, the alkaline diet is not as restrictive as many people assume before fully comprehending how it works. It is true that many fruits are highly acidic when you look at them in their whole form outside the body. But now you can make sense of that the acidic nature is not as important as whether it increases the amount of acid after it has been digested and assimilated.

Fresh fruits actually make nutritious alkaline diet snacks. They are fast, delicious, and fulfill your craving for something sweet. You can mix up your own fresh fruit salad and keep it in the fridge, or slice up fresh fruit into plastic bags and keep them on hand for convenient snacks for the entire family.

The bottom line is that fresh produce is encouraged on the alkaline diet! Many fruits are actually alkalizing to your body, while even the fruits that are truly acidifying have their place inside the system.

The Natural Immune Booster In Nature

March 6th, 2010 by my2cents

Colds, influenza and other viruses, diseases, pathogens, toxins, germs, bacteria, what do all these tiny nasties have in common? This is what our bodies deal with everyday. As we go about our day by day routines and business we come into contact with these invaders, most of the time without even realizing it. Our immune system fights them off to the best of its power but, winning the war depends on the capabilities and quality of equipment soldiers are fighting with. Why should our bodies be different considering what it fights off everyday?

Various groups and agencies say that immune boosters are not beneficial. That there is nothing we can do, save ingesting multiple prescription drugs as soon as we are older, to boost our “value” of health. Simply glance on the internet and you will discover folks who claim that vitamins, minerals and antioxidants either do no good or do more damage than good. It sounds as if, the nutrients our bodies require to operate at its zenith are not foremost. I say garbage.

Think about what the body does for us; it is a machine. All machines must have the suitable support to run efficiently and properly. We are designed to get the nourishment we need via our food, but in today’s world that is almost impossible, for many reasons I won’t get into right now. So, what can we do to offer our bodies the care it wants? Wait years to take multiple medications together with all kinds of menacing side effects, or take the steps crucial to boost our immune systems intelligently? Is there anything we can do?

Thankfully, Japanese immunologist Yasuhiko Kojima has discovered the secret with the discovery of interferon. Interferon is a natural protein that initiates the body’s immune system to hit invading microorganisms and boosts the immune system’s capability to mount an immune response. In 1954, Dr. Kojima and a colleague, Dr. Yasuichi Nagano, discovered interferon-inducing actions in Chinese herbal medicines. With the aim of finding a method to naturally boost interferon manufacture in the body by means of the aid of herbs, Dr. Kojima has screened, tested and evaluated over 200 different botanicals, eventually isolating 4 herbs that, in combination, naturally boost the body’s production of its own interferon.

Dr. Kojima and Dr. Nagano’s pioneering insights have generated an massive body of scientific literature on interferon, antiviral, and anticancer immune responses in animals and humans, now a budding and active area of research. Dr. Kojima has dedicated over 40 years of his life and holds no fewer than 30 patents for interferon inducers and related processes as they correlate to Chinese herbal medicines.

“It has taken me some fifty years since my research began to come to this point. The combination of interferon stimulation which strengthens cells, and macrophage activation which plays a major role in the immune system yielded almost magical effects. There are no side effects, and I am confident that my four botanical compound extracts will play a major role in maintaining our health.”
–Dr. Yasuhiko Kojima; Dr. Yasuhiko Kojima received his Doctor of Medical Science degree from Tokyo University in 1964. Before receiving his degree, he was employed at Tokyo University Institute of Medical Science. Dr. Kojima’s experience also includes serving in senior advisory roles at Kitazato Pharmaceutical and Yamanouchi Pharmaceutical. Currently, he is president and chairman of the board at The Interferon Herb Research Institute.

So, there is a natural immune booster in our bodies and it needs to be given the right care. That means that diet, exercise, the proper amount of sleep and astute use of certain supplements can work simultaneously to be a fantastic immune booster. Boosting the immune system naturally can allow your body to attack communicable agents without having to rely on ill-advised drugs later on in life.

Find out more about a natural product that Dr. Yasuhiko Kojima developed that assists the natural immune booster in your body called interferon. After finding the four key plants that kicked in the interferon production in the body he came together with a specific company to develop NutriFeron. Only this company has the insight of Dr. Kojima.

Different Sources Of Vitamin C

March 5th, 2010 by my2cents

There are many natural sources of vitamin c.  The concentration of vitamin c differs in these sources greatly from one to the other.  Some of the best sources for vitamin c are fruits and berries.Citrus are good sources as are other fruit.  There is one fruit in particular which has the highest concentration of vitamin c of any other thing in the world.

Most Potent Sources Of Vitamin C

The most potent source of vitamin c on this planet so far that we know of is the Kakadu Plum.  The Kakadu Plum has a potency of vitamin c that is 50 times more than oranges.  It is 5 percent vitamin c.  The numbers for potency read like this 3100 mg/100g of fruit.
The second most potent source of vitamin c is Camu Camu fruit.2800mg/100g is the potency of the Camu Camu of fruit.  Both of these are exotic and hard to find fruits.
In most cases we are able to find ourselves processed sources of vitamin c.
Processed vitamin c is chewable, powder, capsule and tablet. Our foods and drinks contain it.  Juice is fortified, milk is fortified, and cheese is fortified.  We are in a time where almost every food we eat has a source of vitamin c.  There is no shortage in our culture and in western culture of vitamin c.
The most common source of vitamin c for most people is orange juice or oranges.  Oranges naturally have a typical potency of 50mg/100g of fruit.  Citrus has always been associated with vitamin c.  In most recommendations it said we need no more than 450mg of vitamin c however some suggest 1,000mg all the way to dosages as high as 10,000mg per day.  When it comes to this controversial nutrient there is no shortage of suggestion as to what is the best daily dosage.  Many people have tried radical daily dosages and others have been more moderate and tried a 2,000mm a day approach.  At 2,000mg a day there seems to be a large following.  Many people feel that this is the magic number and many people feel that the source for the vitamin c should come from natural and processed sources.  In either case the health benefitsof this fantastic vitamin have been proven and are real, so make sure that you at least get your minimum recommended dosages of vitamin c and try and consume natural sources of the vitamin.
